Project P2

Project P carries three main elements: portable, plastic and pipe. Following the plastic-pipe furniture fantasy, it is going to present a collection of micro-structures in use of this light-weight, low-cost and easy-to-handle material. The plastic-pipe-driven whim gave birth to many creations, namely, Share Your Heart and Figure Out. It is an exhibition to show off local design tactics — folding, piling, extending, bending and hiding; and how the ideas fit in the minimal capacity in Hong Kong.

Share Your Heart

The idea of this creation is from the discourse of the public space in Times Square. There was a Japanese young people Hirakata Vinten sitting on a little stool as a listener for the passers-by.The material for my recent works is PVC pipe. It is lightweight and flexible to use. The Chinese title of this work is with a meaning of “Channel”. It also match the form of this material. The structure of this work can be expanded for “inclusive”. Except the typical function of a street market, this work emphasizes the possibility of street market culture.

Figure Out

Chinese chess games were commonly played on the streets in the old days as a mind-intriguing sport of both the chess-players and the on-lookers. Nowadays, Chinese chess stalls can hardly be found on the hustle and bustle city streets. Themed with “Figure Out”, the design project is hopefully to restore chess stalls to activate the mind of people who may find a way out in the mind-clogging society.
